It depends on scope: full planning is priced as a percentage of your budget or a flat fee, while day-of coordination is significantly more affordable. Ask exactly what is included — number of meetings, presence on the day, vendor management — before comparing prices.
Especially worth it if you work long hours, are planning from another city or country, or need many vendors coordinated at a demanding venue. An experienced planner knows reliable professionals and prevents expensive mistakes — often earning back part of their fee through better deals.
For full planning, 12 or more months before the wedding — ideally before you book a venue, so they can guide that choice too. For day-of coordination, 3 to 6 months is usually enough time for them to learn your plan and your vendors.
